2009 SGS 1-26 Grand Prix Race at Beloit, WI this year?

Just curious if anyone would be interested ... I may host an event this year if feedback is good.

I would really like to try a 1-26 "Grand Prix" style lap race around the Tu-tu Triangle (22-mile Triangle: Beloit-Blackhawk-Compass Rose-Beloit). The Race Start would be simultaneous from a broadcasted countdown after all gliders are launched. Gliders fly "around" turnpoints on honor system. GPS/Datalogger/Scoring NOT REQUIRED. The soaring conditions would dictate the number of laps called for. First one completing the laps wins!

The gliders would stay very close to home (7.5 miles max) and would make for a great spectator event. People on ground would be able to see gliders on course and overhead as they complete the laps. We could probably track the leaders with binoculars and have details broadcast over live PA!

I think we need at least 5 to make it interesting, and could probably host/launch as many as 10 in a reasonable time period to have a simultaneous start. We can probably get 2-3 pilots out of Beloit. Please pass the idea around at your flying site and get me some feedback.

Please comment!

New Beloit Area GPS Turnpoint Database

I am going to be releasing an updated turnpoint database this year. Let me know if you have any comments or special requests.

The final version will be released on the Worldwide Turnpoint Exchange.
